In-Water Repair & Structural Reinforcement

The landing craft “Al Rahiyah” ran aground in shallow waters within the harbor due to sudden, strong winds. The incident resulted in damage to the propulsion and steering systems on the starboard side of the vessel. Due to the lack of a vacant dry dock, repairs had to be carried out underwater, as requested by the owner.

In October 2021, the Landing Craft “AL RAHIYAH” was the subject of an intricate in-water repair operation. The project involved the removal of damaged components—including the propeller shaft, propeller, and rudder for the Starboard side—followed by their repair or complete overhaul. Once restored to optimal condition, the components were reinstalled, ensuring that the vessel met all international standards for performance and safety. This project underscored our ability to manage complex underwater repairs with precision and minimal operational interruption.

Project Challenges

The in-water repair of “AL RAHIYAH” was particularly challenging as it required critical repairs to be executed with minimal downtime in an operational marine setting. Removing and restoring essential components like the propeller shaft and steering system demanded meticulous care to avoid compromising the vessel’s stability. Coordinating multiple repair teams in the challenging underwater conditions necessitated flawless communication and synchronization to ensure that every phase of the process was executed seamlessly.

  • Executing repairs during minimal downtime windows was challenging.
  • Removing and reinstalling essential components required precision.
  • Maintaining vessel stability during critical repairs was crucial.
  • Coordinating multiple repair teams in harsh underwater conditions was complex.
